What is Wisconsin BadgerCare Plus?

BadgerCare Plus is a health insurance program that helps low-income children, pregnant people, and adults in Wisconsin. BadgerCare Plus is funded by Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

You must be a Wisconsin resident and a U.S. citizen or qualifying immigrant* to be eligible for BadgerCare Plus. You also need to be in one of these groups:
• A child aged 18 or younger with income at or below 300% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
• A parent or caretaker of a child age 18 or younger with income at or below 100% of the FPL.
• An adult aged 19 through 64 who is not receiving Medicare, does not have dependent children, and has income at or below 100% of the FPL.
• A pregnant person with income at or below 300% of the FPL.
• An adult under age 26 at any income level who was in a foster home, court-ordered Kinship Care, or subsidized guardianship when you turned 19.

*If you are not a U.S. citizen or qualifying immigrant, you may be able to get help through Emergency Services or the BadgerCare Plus Prenatal Plan (if you are pregnant). DHS will not share your immigration status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Wisconsin has many different types of health care programs. If you are not eligible for BadgerCare Plus, you may be eligible for another program. Wisconsin also has programs that help with paying for food or child care, finding a job, and more. Go to access.wi.gov and click “See if you can get help” to learn about available programs.

Children and pregnant people with income above the limit can become eligible by meeting a deductible.

What is the application process for Wisconsin BadgerCare Plus?

Apply online: Go to access.wi.gov and log in or create an ACCESS account. This is the fastest and easiest way to apply for benefits. You can apply for multiple programs at the same time. 
Apply by mail: Fill out and mail a paper application.
Apply over the phone or in person: You can apply through your local county or tribal agency
