What is New Mexico Unemployment Insurance?

The Federal-State Unemployment Insurance Program provides unemployment benefits to eligible workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own (as determined under New Mexico law, and meet other eligibility requirements of New Mexico law.

  • Unemployment insurance (UI) payments (benefits) are intended to provide temporary financial assistance to unemployed workers who meet the requirements of New Mexico law.
  • New Mexico administers a separate unemployment insurance program within guidelines established by Federal law.

New Mexico Unemployment Insurance is administered by New Mexico.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must a resident of New Mexico and meet all of the following:

  • Unemployed, and
  • Worked in New Mexico during the past 12 months (this period may be longer in some cases), and
  • Earned a minimum amount of wages determined by New Mexico guidelines, and
  • Actively seeking work each week you are collecting benefits.
