What is National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Loan Repayment Program?
The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) was mandated by Congress to develop a distinct loan repayment program to increase the pool of extramural researchers who conduct minority health disparities and other health disparities research.
The NIMHD Loan Repayment Program (LRP) offers an educational loan repayment of up to $35,000 per year to qualified health professionals. This program offers two distinct extramural loan repayment opportunities:
- The NIMHD Extramural Loan Repayment Program for Health Disparities Research supports the recruitment and retention of highly qualified health professionals to research careers that focus on addressing minority health disparities and/or other health disparities; and
- The NIMHD Extramural Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program for Clinical Researchers from Disadvantaged Backgrounds supports the recruitment and retention of highly qualified health professionals from disadvantaged backgrounds as research investigators to careers in clinical research.

Program Requirements
To be eligible for this program, you must meet the general eligibility requirements.
In addition to the general eligibility requirements, you must be a qualified health professional with a doctorate degree (e.g. M.D., ph.D., Dr. PH.) who is employed in non-federal academic/research settings and are able to conduct two years of minority health disparities or other health disparities research or clinical research.
