What is Missouri Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)?
The purpose of the Missouri Temporary Assistance Program is to provide assistance to needy families with children so that the children can be cared for at home. The program also is intended to reduce dependency by promoting job preparation, work and marriage. Funds may be used to prevent non-marital pregnancies and encourage the formation and maintenance of two-parent families. Temporary Assistance offers cash assistance to families.

Program Requirements
To be eligible for Missouri Family Assistance, you must be a resident of Missouri, and a U.S. citizen, legal alien or qualified alien. You must be unemployed or underemployed and have low or very low income. You must also be one of the following:
- Have a child 18 years of age or younger, or
- Be pregnant, or
- Be 18 years of age or younger and the head of your household.
