What is Maryland Children's Health Program (SCHIP)?
The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides health coverage to nearly eight million children and families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid, but can't afford private coverage.
In some states, CHIP covers parents and pregnant women. Each state offers CHIP coverage, and works closely with its state Medicaid program. Please note: These programs may be called by different names in your state.

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Marylandand a U.S. Citizen, National, or a Non-Citizen legally admitted into the U.S. You must be uninsured (and ineligible for Medicaid) and meet one of the following:
- 18 years of age and under, or
- Pregnant, or
- A primary care giver with a child(ren) 18 years of age and under.
In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

Application Details
What is the application process for Maryland Children's Health Program (SCHIP)?
The application is brief and the process is simple. The application asks for:
- General Information such as your name, address, telephone number, etc.
- Any health insurance coverage
- Information about family members (such as names and birth dates)
- Social Security numbers of applicants
- Sources and amounts of family income

Local Health Departments will mail applications on request. Find your local Health Department on the Local Health Department Directory page.
Also, applications are available at local Health Departments, local Departments of Social Services, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Centers, and local hospitals and schools.
Applications can be completed at home and mailed in or dropped off at any local health department. Case managers are available to assist you there. Find your local Health Department on the Local Health Department Directory page.
Those found eligible for MCHP will receive an enrollment packet in the mail to select a managed care organization for health care.
