What is Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad?

American high school students on the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES Abroad) program will spend one academic semester or year in countries that may include Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mali (semester), Morocco, Oman, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia and Turkey.

Administration

Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad is administered by Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Program Requirements

Eligibility details include:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • 15-18.5 years of age at start of program.
  • Enrolled in high school (including home school) at the time of application.
  • For the following countries, prior French skills are required: Morocco, Senegal.
  • The YES Abroad program seeks applicants of all racial, ethnic, religious, socio-economic backgrounds, and sexual orientations.
