Arkansas Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
Arkansas
What is Arkansas Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program?
The Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low-income households pay a portion of their home energy costs by administering Regular and Crisis Programs. For Crisis assistance, the household must be disconnected, have a disconnect notice from a utility, be very low on fuel, or behind in paying utility bill(s).
The Program is administered by the Arkansas Energy Office (AEO) a division of the Arkansas Department of Energy & Environment. Local Community Action Agencies (CAAs) are responsible for accepting and processing LIHEAP applications based on Arkansas’s policies.
During the winter program (January – April), AR LIHEAP helps with heating utilities (such as natural gas, propane, wood, electricity). During the summer program (July – September), AR LIHEAP helps with electricity as the cooling utility. The amount of the benefit depends on the household size, income, and energy costs.
