What is Iowa - Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (Hawki)?
Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (Hawki), federally known as Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), provides health coverage to children and families with income too high to qualify for Medicaid, but can't afford private coverage.
Eligibility for Hawki is determined using the same rules as Medicaid for children, except with higher income standards. Some members are required to pay a small monthly premium, ranging from $5 to $40, which is based on the household’s income.

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Iowa and meet all of the following:
- Either 18 years of age and under; and
- A U.S. Citizen, National, or a Non-Citizen legally admitted into the U.S; and
- Uninsured (and ineligible for Medicaid).
In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:
